The Golden Bean - Costa Rican World Class Taste
Costa Rica's gourmet coffee has long been favored by European coffee lovers since its introduction in 1848. Since that time no other country in the world has placed a greater importance on coffee production. Coffee growing quickly became a profitable venture for Costa Ricans and helped establish rapid economic growth for the small Central American nation. The unwavering support of the government and the underlying vision of private entrepreneurs helped lay a solid foundation for the industry. A direct relationship exists between the production of coffee and the long-standing democratic tradition that make Costa Ricans so proud. At the inception of coffee growth in the country, the government offered free land to those who would accept the challenge of planting "the golden bean." Today, it is one of the nation's most rewarding cash crops.
The spectacular, fertile slopes of western Costa Rica give the coffee its distinctive, intense flavor and help make it " the choice of connoisseurs."
Coffee harvesters often labor at a 45 degree angle as they harvest beans at altitudes up to 7,000 feet. The premium Arabica "single origin" hard bean is named after the region where it is grown and is considered one of the world's most exquisite coffees. The bright cherry red berries are handpicked from coffee plants cultivated high on rich green volcanic mountains. Roasters often use these Costa Rican beans to improve upon the blends of other coffees.
All the blessings of nature converge in Costa Rica to produce only the highest quality coffee. Plantations in each microclimate contribute to the elite characteristics of the unsurpassed final product. "The golden bean" is a coffee raised by the clearest rays of sun, bathed by the freshest crystals of water, and nursed by the careful attention of a special people.
Obtaining first class coffee has been a close kept secret in Costa Rica for over a century. The formula begins and ends with a strict and rigorous production process. The coffee is dried under the purest warmth of the sun or slow dried in specially developed dryers. Rios De Oro™ (Gold Rivers) is the highest premium grade used in our small batch roaster to produce quality, uniform roasts every time. To protect its unequaled freshness, our coffee is immediately packaged upon leaving the roaster's cooling bin.
